Phoenix, Arizona — On August 19, 2025, tragedy struck Maryvale High School when a stabbing inside a classroom left one student dead and another in police custody. The incident, which occurred shortly before 11 a.m., prompted an immediate police response, a lockdown, and a wave of shock across the community.

Michael Montoya II

According to early reports, the stabbing stemmed from a fight between two male students inside a classroom. A video recorded by a classmate and later uploaded to Snapchat showed the victim, later identified as Michael Montoya II, attempting to get away from the perpetrator, Chris Daniel Aguilar. Montoya eventually fell to the ground, at which point Aguilar pulled out a four-inch folding knife and repeatedly stabbed him.
